Yosemite Meat Market

Around 12 years ago, Jimboy Rabanal moved his family to Yosemite Street Village, a historic neighborhood in Stockton with a rich history of long-established businesses. One of those businesses is Yosemite Meat Market, which has served the surrounding area since 1926. A Stockton native, Rabanal grew concerned when he heard that George Lucas, the market’s owner and his friend, planned to sell the business last year.

Fired Mobile Pizza

Daniel Correa slides a Neapolitan artisan-style pizza in and out of an authentic Forno Valoriani wood-fired mobile oven parked on Yosemite Street in Stockton. The crowd of about 100 people on Friday night in March watches every second of the 90 seconds it takes to bake fresh pizza. “We bring something different to the neighborhood,” Correa says of his business, Fired Mobile Pizza Oven.

FarOut Foliage

As sunlight starts peeking into the large windows at Farout Foliage, an array of plants soak up the sun on a breezy day in downtown Stockton. The window displays on East Market Street feature a variety of plants that line the floors, shelves, and tables inside the storefront. Before opening the door, you are greeted by more succulents placed along the sidewalk. Each row of plants gives off this feeling as if they are trying to reach out to you. Large, leafy plants sprout up from containers hoping clients will pick them up to take home. A woman gently wipes each leaf, arranging the intimate space before opening hours. “Hey there! Thanks for stopping by,” says Nessie Huffhines, owner of Farout Foliage.

Tuleburg Press

Paula Sheil is optimistic about the creative writing space in Stockton and her role as a founder of Tuleburg Press. Located on the first floor of Cort Tower in downtown Stockton, the small independent publishing press is tucked away near the elevator lobby behind two double doors. The Write Place logo, sprawled just above these doors, invites writers of all ages to explore the unique, vintage-inspired space filled with library books and journals.
